The founder of Chrysanthemum Partners shares how she landed her first big client, transitioned to sole ownership, and built a thriving brand consultancy.
Meet Christie Boyle, Co-Founder & CEO of Chrysanthemum Partners, a strategic communications and brand consultancy known for its work across design, architecture, hospitality, and lifestyle industries. With more than 15 years in business, Christie has guided U.S. and international clients through launches, rebrands, and moments of transformation. But her story didn’t start with a formal plan - it started with an unexpected pivot.

Christie didn’t always plan to start her own business. In fact, she was thriving as VP of Marketing at a design magazine when a project she created “The Showtime Showhouse” gained national attention. But in 2009, the magazine folded, leaving her future uncertain. Rather than pause, she and her colleague decided to form a company and keep the momentum going. Showtime became their first client, and Chrysanthemum Partners was born.
“That experience taught me the power of being nimble and taking risks - sometimes the best opportunities are born from unexpected change.”
A High-Profile Client and an “Aha” Moment
Securing Showtime as their first client wasn’t just validation - it was a catalyst. With a major brand on board, Christie and her co-founder doubled down on showcasing their capabilities through industry events and media outreach. That credibility helped them quickly attract more clients aligned with their expertise.
The Power of Partnership and the Lessons It Brings
Launching Chrysanthemum Partners with a co-founder came with clear advantages. Christie and her partner had complementary skill sets, which made decision-making efficient and creative collaboration a hallmark of their early success. But as the business evolved, so did their paths.
During the pandemic, Christie’s partner shifted her focus to public service, eventually becoming mayor of her town. In a mutual decision, Christie took full ownership of the company.
“Taking full ownership taught me to trust my instincts more, be decisive, and embrace the freedom to shape the business exactly as I envision it.”
Reflecting on the partnership, Christie emphasizes the importance of shared values and communication. For those considering launching a business with someone else, her advice is clear: “Be upfront about expectations, play to each other’s strengths, and ensure alignment on how you want to work and serve clients. A values mismatch is something best addressed before moving forward.”
Laying the Foundation
The early days of Chrysanthemum Partners were built on the basics for any new company: forming an LLC, registering the business, opening a bank account, and launching a website. They also created a strong pitch deck and prospect list. If Christie were starting today, she’d invest earlier in thought leadership and social content to help build credibility from the start.
Over time, they adopted a tech stack to streamline operations and enhance client service, including QuickBooks for bookkeeping, Squarespace to host their website, CoverageBook for producing professional press recap reports, and YAMM (Yet Another Mail Merge) to efficiently distribute press materials to a curated list of editors.
Growth Through Relationships
Chrysanthemum Partners’ growth has been largely powered by word-of-mouth and long-standing client relationships. Christie credits trust, strategic thinking, and results with helping her build a roster of loyal clients - some of whom have worked with her for nearly a decade.
“One highlight was helping the A&D Building pivot to virtual programming during the pandemic. It reminded me of our value in helping clients stay connected, even during major disruptions.”
Staying Grounded and Resilient
Running a business solo isn’t always easy. Christie relies on her circle of friends, mentors, and peers to stay grounded and inspired. One mantra she returns to often: stay curious and keep learning.
Business owners know there is no “perfect time” to start. Christie says, “If you have a sound business plan, some savings, a supportive network, and a strong idea, that’s the right time to start. Action creates momentum - just take one tangible step each day.”
